My Top 20 Songs of 2018

As I mentioned earlier this month in a separate blog post, 2018 was a tremendous year in terms of new music. Every week seemed to either have a new song released from one of my favorite artists or have a new discovery insert itself permanently into my Spotify library. There were many different ventures into music genres last year, as I'm sure you'll be able to tell with how diverse the genres of the songs on this list appear to be (you will not find a country song on this list, however. I do not apologize). So, without further ado, let's begin with my top 20 songs of 2018:

20. "Traipse", Tremonti

19. "My Molasses", Awolnation

18. "Top of the World", Five Finger Death Punch

17. "One Kiss", Calvin Harris, Dua Lipa

16. "REEL IT IN," Aminé

15. "Fascination", Red Sun Rising

14. "Glory", Young the Giant

13. "100 Miles and Running", Logic

12. "Rich & Sad", Post Malone

11. "Warm it Up", Logic

Alright, now let's get into the succulent meat of this chicken wing/blog: my top 10 songs of 2018.

*DISCLAIMER* This top 10 list is no longer opinion. These are factually the top 10 songs of 2018, so if you disagree, sorry, but you're wrong.

10. "Kevin's Heart", J. Cole

-Lyrically, this song is further proof that J. Cole is one of the strongest rappers alive in terms of content and flow, but you knew that already.

9. "New Wave", Big Spring

-A new band that I discovered this year, "New Wave" was a great introduction to this band that actually have a hand-full of catchy songs.

8. "My Blood", twenty one pilots

-For some unknown reason, this song made me incredibly happy when I first heard it. The music video to this song, however, made me incredibly heartbroken. Take a look for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mn-FFjIbo8

7. "Feed the Wolf", Breaking Benjamin

-A VERY heavy song, this song was #1 on my list at the beginning of 2018.

6. "92 Explorer", Post Malone

-For some reason, I feel like "92 Explorer" is the song-equivalent to how Post Malone is in person: incredibly fun to have around.

5. "Cheers", Sevendust

-Couldn't leave my favorite band of all-time off this list. "Cheers" is their best throat-puncher from an album that seemed to be inconsistent from track to track.

4. "Levitate", twenty one pilots

-I had always known about twenty one pilots, but I hadn't given them any serious consideration as a band I'd thoroughly enjoy until I found myself learning the lyrics so I could rap along to this song. I'm still working on it, but it'll happen one of these days.

3. "TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME", The 1975

-The 1975 is my guilty pleasure band. Every song they've released either has me wanting to mercilessly drown myself in their music or dance with zero shame. This song brings the zero-shame dancing.

2. "Haunted by Design", Myles Kennedy

-Myles Kennedy truly showed his musical brilliance with an acoustic album that completely diverges from his hard-rock projects. This song, about a man who can't find enough peace to fall asleep, is a truly ominous and magnificent masterpiece.

1. "Psycho", Breaking Benjamin

-Breaking Benjamin could do no wrong in 2018. Maybe if their album, Ember, ended up as a flop, people would be ridiculing them for their Pantera-esque riff at the beginning of "Psycho". Instead, this song–and this entire album–is a driving indication that Breaking Benjamin is (arguably) the best rock band of the 21st century. Bold statement, but I stand by it.

So there are my top songs of 2018. Do you think a song or two got snubbed? What songs make your top list of 2018? Leave a comment below and let me know!
